Escape.

We finally escaped the confines of Santa Catalina, an incredible surfing spot and fun town, to find out what Panama looked like before the trees were chopped down, the roads built and the native animals killed. Isla Coiba is a UNESCO protected nature conservation area about 30nm offshore from Santa Catalina and shows us what the whole coast of Central America must have looked like at one time. Vines and heavy jungle drape right down into the choppy waters, multitudes of circling birds ride the thermals off the cliffs, and fresh water rivers discharge onto the beaches every couple miles. Stunning. We are hoping to be here a couple days and are off to the ranger station to try and negotiate the fees for staying….
