Goodbye slow, squally ITCZ, hello fast, cloud NE Tradewinds!!! Khulula is flying along here, just off a close haul. The ride is a bit bouncy, sometimes wet, but we’re cruising so all is good. Everyone is handling the 20 degrees of heal and stuffy cabin (hatches are closed because of flying spray) well, despite sweaty nights.
The only sucky thing is the rocking motion of the boat + mast broke our baby-stay, a piece of wire that holds up the mast… again… for the 3rd time. Lame. It appears that a weld on the mast fitting broke in a classic case of fracture/fatigue. We’ve rigged a replacement and hope to get it fixed properly in Suriname. In the mean time we’re playing it safe and still cruising along. Date: April 21
