Guy and Hugh here from Khulula as we head down the coast of SA. Left Durban yesterday at lunch heading for East London. We had building NE winds (behind us, which is good) as night came on. Wind held 30 – 40 knots consistently for a few hours. As the waves built we were having quite a ride. Unfortunately Hugh was caught off guard by one wave and the boat gybed. Our trusty ‘gybe preventer’ broke, and the errant mainsheet caused some damage to the steering gear. Sucky. On the upside, shortly afterwards the wind calmed down and we’ve been having fast sailing south in the Agaulas Current all morning.
