Last day for Ryan to prove himself!
-Bryson

We have finally begun to start enjoying ourselves. Slowly the smiles are breaking out, the jokes coming back and unwinding has begun. Since leaving La Paz and Cabo we have been on a schedule, a rather tight one. We needed to get going asap and get past and across Hurricane Alley before it got any later in the season. When it was windy, we were trying to go faster, when it was dead calm, we were trying to go, when we where motoring, it was a constant battle between using too much fuel and speed. (An issue we no longer need to worry about since we only have 5 gallons of diesel left!)

But since crossing over the mythical 10’N line and past the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone, we are in the free and clear. We are riding the very northern edge of the southern hemisphere weather patterns. And we couldn’t be happier. For the past couple dyas we have been beating into a nice southerly in order to be able to take full advantage of the southern trades, hopefully tomorrow we will tack and point Khulula and her crew towards the Marquesas, land and fresh food. This part of the trip will still take us a couple weeks but should be in nice consistent winds.

Tomorrow we will break out the fishing gear again. After spending a pretty penny on all sorts of brightly coloured fishing accessories, we are yet to catch a fish. Ryan is the expert and is taking the first try. We gave him three days to catch one (catching one requires bringing it on board, not just seeing it !). He has one more day before we get to keel haul him for not supplying the crew with fresh sashimi. I wish him luck tomorrow…
