Roughly 2.86 BILLION plastic bags are used anually in Canada, that is an average of 200 per person. Victoria is attempting to completely remove the option of inserting single used plastic bags into the hands of the consumer, a move that will hopefully set a precedent for other large cities in Canada.

This initiative was tabled to council in early November 2015, with the council voting 7-1 in favour of performing a more in-depth review of the proposal. This review is set to take a month, with the results due in just over a week. Go VICTORIA GO, and thank you to Oceangybe’s ally, the Victoria chapter of the Surfrider foundation, for making this happen.
