We left Ballena Bay this afternoon after 3 days of waiting out a Papagayo wind up north. We spend them exploring the beaches and waves of Mal Pais, the stunningly incredible waterfalls of Montezuma and the never-ending mangroves at the other side of the bay. All three expeditions showed the incredible natural beauty of Costa Rica. If you are even wondering if a visit to the Nicoya peninsular is worthwhile, the crew of Khulula give a huge “YES”.

On Isla Tortuga, just a few days ago, we visited two neighboring beaches, one with a “resort” cleaning staff and the other with no development. The resort beaches was picture perfect with no garbage and chairs to sun yourself in. The neighboring beach was inundated with trash of every imaginable sort. Thermos’es, sandals, soccer balls, and everything else under the sun. Just another example of how we are now required to manually create a “picture perfect” beach, because there are very few left.
