Ah, its great to be here! While we escaped the infamous nothern Tehuanapec winds, our trip across the ledgendary gulf was not with out some discomfort. The fist 200 miles of the 244 mile trip from Puerto Madero were fantastic, and we made really good time. But around 10am on Saturday, with 44 miles left to Hautulco, things changed. The 8 – 10 knots of southwest winds that were forecast arrived. And then they started building. And building. By noon we had 20 – 25 knots of winds pretty much on our nose. Ugh. Soon the seas built, and we were slamming into them proper, not fun.
So we spent the rest of the day slamming into the swell dousing the boat and crew regularly and generally being quite uncomfortable. With the help of the iron wind we managed to squeak into the marina here with an hour of light left. We’re enjoying being tied up to a nice solid dock at a very reasonable price. The marina is part of a massive housing development that apparently isn’t selling as fast as the developers planned. The a long row of empty lots, a few with houses built, line a dredged channel. Each lot has its own dock. So while the lots and houses wait for buyers, the marina is renting out the dock to boats at cut rates. Works for us.
