We pulled into Cabo 36 hours ago with a full gale blowing out of the bay. It was not pretty, and this was just the spill-over from the outside of the peninsula. The wind was well forecast, but still a good reminder of how rough conditions on the Baja can get. The gale had been blowing for the past 4 days but forecast to drop off Saturday, leaving us a decent weather window to start up the Baja. And by decent, we mean 15 – 20 knots on the nose, rather than 25 – 30! So we seized the moment this morning and headed out around Cabo San Lucas. The remnants of gale can still be seen in the lumpy seas, but the conditions are manageable with the help of our engine. The wind should follow the pattern we saw farther down the mexican coast, allowing us to do some sailing proper later tonight and tomorrow morning. Here’s fingers crossed.
