For the first time since returning from Canada, the fishing line is out! The reasons for this delay are all very complex, but all stem from one root cause: grocery shopping when hungry! So it was that on October 1st, Hugh Brys and I were striding the isles of the HUGE Bali Carfour supermarket, each equipped with a very generous shopping cart, attempting to purchase food for a month at sea. Within this plan lies the assumption that we wouldn’t be able to get many provisions at our one stop, the tiny atoll of Cocos Keeling. Three hours later we had all sorts of yummy food on the boat, and a freezer jam packed with tasty meats. All good? Nay. We completely forgot about the VERY stringent regulations of Australian quarantine and customs, people you DO NOT mess about with. Cocos, of course, is an Australian Island. So, on the first day of the passage the realization dawned that with regards to our fresh meat, fruit and veggies, it was either consume it prior to landfall at Cocos, or have it confiscated. Clearly we opted for the former, with the unfortunate result of no fishing! grrr… the lines are out now though, and my belly can almost taste the sesame encrusted yellow fin tuna steaks over wild rice we are going to cook up tonight, while swinging at anchor in the spectacular atoll of Cocos, not 60 miles off our bow! One minor problem is that I haven’t caught it yet. I am really hoping to catch it while Brys and Hugh still slumber, as the dawn is always the best fishing time… Time will tell!!
