Isla Tortugas

Yesterday Bryson drove to San Jose to drop off Jen after a great 10 days on Khulula. He picked up the lovely Ms. Jessica Kippen (Oceangybe’s resident ornithologist) and equally endearing Ms. Carly Daoust, who both will grace our vessel for the next week.

We’re just heading over to to Isla Tortugas after a week in Bahia Herradura, and what a week it was. Early on we had some great surf at Roca Loca, a locals reef break south of Jaco. There we met Billy and Eirely, two super-friendly tico’s from Jaco. The both blew the typical surfer local stereo-type of stand-offish, aloof, angry right out of the water. No sooner had we caught a few waves with them, than Billy had offered to drive us to the next beach for an afternoon surf, and later on he invited us to his house for birthday party the next day! More to come on that.

On Tuesday we gave a presentation to a local school group, and on Thursday we had a big presentation/press/conference/garbage study/mangrove tour! More to come in a full blog soon. In the mean time, check out the Feb. 19th edition of the Costa Rica newspaper La Nacion online for one of the stories.
