After 9 days at sea, Khulula is safely anchored off the Royal Papau Yatch Club, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Both Khulula and crew are VERY VERY STOKED to be here on flat water. The past 24 hours have been WET (monsoon rains – CRAZY!), ROLLY (Large waves and lots of wind against tide situations) and WINDY (gusty to 30kts +). Khulula is a little beaten up with a severed radar reflector (we managed to retrieve it before donating it to the ocean), a severed baby stay (yup, number two so far), and worst of all, a ripped Jib. In a large gust and part way through a sickening roll, the jib filled like a cannon shot and ripped a 4 foot hole in the seam. Thereafter a slightly controlled panic ensued as the crew scrambled to furl it in and secure it before the wind ripped it to tatters. We sailed the rest of the night with a triple reefed main alone, and still averaging over 7 knots. We are glad to be here, as the weather is only going to get worse over the next couple of days.

We will be here for four to five days before departing on our next 1400 mile passage to Indonesia.

This passage was a total of 1288 miles, and took us exactly 8 days 20 hours (146 miles/day), at an average speed of 6.1 kts.
