Remember yesterday morning when we said that there was this cold front and small low pressure below us? There was something about changing clouds patterns and what not? Yeah, well, all through the day the wind build and slowly shifted to the north. By sunset we were seeing gusts to 28 knots and a light sprinkling of rain. Darkness falling, wind building, rain starting… queue fish. Wham! Our fishing line goes flying out the stern! Fortunately the ocean delivered us not a bonito, but a massive Mahi Mahi! After a fierce battle that was only just won by Khulula, we landed the fish. Probably the largest dorado we’ve caught. Oh yeah, and just after it was safely on deck, our newest crew member, Guy Patterson (Brother to Hugh) finally succumbed to the rolling and pitching of Khulula in the confused seas, and gave a little back to the ocean, so to speak. Right, back to the sailing. By the start of Bryson’s shift at 9pm the wind had backed all the way to North and was regularly gusting to 30 kts. Ugh. All hands to reef down and gybe back on course. Things stayed that way pretty much all night, with regular rain showers, gusts and general unpleasantness. And then, in a few hours after sunrise, everything chilled out. So chilled out in fact, that Bryson is making French toast as this is being typed.
