An unprecedented turn of events has resulted in S/V Khulula being anchored off the island of Rodriguez, 350 miles east of Mauritius. It all started with the weather forecasts coming up with a few days of absolutely zero wind. Having no wind in a rolly ocean is absolutely no fun in a sailboat, and a huge waste of diesel. This afternoon we were still all ready to continue on to Mauritius when the wind suddenly dropped, the sails started flapping, and the boat started lurching around. Further scrutiny of the weather revealed that this situation would continue for at least another couple of days. At this stage, Rodriguez was visible on the horizon, so a minor left turn has given us in a whole new world to explore for a couple of windless days!! This way we save diesel, explore a new island, and don’t have to live in a lurching reverberating world for the next three days! We’ll be on our way as soon as the wind returns – hopefully less than 3 days away. So, for now the crew will sleep a good long sleep, clocking up 8 hours in a row for the first time in 14 days…zzzz…. 🙂
